Kathryn Kalamaras (Kat), originally from the suburbs of Chicago, moved to California to pursue her career of dancing. She is currently a dance company member of Kenneth Walker Dance Project (KWDP) and Contempo Ballet. She manages and directs Hollywoodettes, a dance entertainment business, and freelances. She has had the pleasure to perform in Carnival, Babes In Toyland, Balletfest, West Side Ballet Theatre, The Toledo Show, the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York, and other various spaces.
Kat grew up a bun head in Crystal Lake, Illinois and attended Alma college in Michigan on scholarship where she received her B.A in Dance Performance. Throughout her career she has studied ballet, pointe, contemporary, modern, jazz, tap, character, jazz, hip hop, and yoga. During college, she had the opportunity to study and perform at American Country Dance Association (ACDA) two years in a row, and choreographed her own full length show as her senior thesis. Kat also attended American Dance Festival’s summer intensive in 2016 where she studied with renowned artists such as Nia Love, Paul Matteson, and Otto “Aquaboogie” where she mainly focused on modern, improv, and hip hop. She also was casted and performed at the international choreographer’s showcase.
After Michigan, she immediately moved to Colorado, where Kat had the pleasure to dance and perform with several companies including Kim Robards Modern Dance Company, Life/ Art Dance Ensemble, Thrive Ballet, In The Wings Aerial Company, Evolving Doors, Ethereum Modern Dance Company, Nosilla Modern Dance Company, and Dream Project Dance Company. While in Colorado, she operated her own two back up dancing business LLC's; 'Bonnies On Tap' and then "K & M Enertainment'. She also began her own modern dance company called 'Bl!nk Modern Dance Company', where they created and performed their own full length shows, and performed at several major projects from fashion shows, art galleries, and more. Her major work there was “Pink Floyd’s The Wall; A Modern Dance Story” which depicted the wild life of Walter Rodger’s and the conspiracies that were of the movie “The Wall”.
In 2022, Kat moved to Florida where she studied with Sarasota Contemporary Ballet after attending their summer intensive and really fell more into teaching while managing an operating a studio. Along with dancing, Kat has a passion for teaching dance. Kat has been teaching for the past ten years throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida and now several schools in LA. She also has had the pleasure of coming on as a guest teacher/ choreographer for various studios and has also been creating series of film work with herself and her students. She currently is a travel choreographer for competitions such as YAGP, UBC, and other competitions. She is mainly known for her contemporary work. Missing her professional journey, she decided it was time to move to another big city- Los Angeles in 2023.
Kat also models professionally outside of dance and has a background in painting and art. She has participated in several art shows and galleries, and sells well in local boutique/ coffee shops and commissions. She has modeled for Bloch and other various dance projects, and has also been an extra in some small films. She has been in several various music videos throughout her career and is always choreographing new concepts for new shows and works.
